The Stone Birdbath Attracts Birds

Stone birdbaths are exceptionally durable and can last for years and years. They come in various designs such as prairie, koi pond, flower designs, and English; essentially whatever you would like to have. There is something solid, attractive and natural looking about a bird bath made from stone. I think that to the birds it has a natural appearance, similar to water being pooled, after a rain storm, in the crevice of a rock.

One of the things that is nice and practical about stone bird baths is you can limit the depth of the water placed in it. Birds are naturally tempted to bath in deep water, and can easily end up getting waterlogged and drowning. This can be avoided by keeping the water fairly shallow. Birds need and love water both for drinking, cooling off and bathing. It is really fun to watch them carry out their activities in quiet, safe area that you have set up.

Birdbaths should be protected from freeze-thaw cycles. Small amounts of moisture may absorb into the cast stone concrete. Birdbaths often are the central feature of an overall plan for a garden setting that includes natural nectar and food plants, shrubs, trees, and feeders. They often are placed where they may be viewed through the windows of a home, school, or office. Bird feeders can be decorative or practical, or both. You can choose a plain bird feeder, which is basically a plastic see-through tube filled with birdseed with a dispenser at the bottom.

Bird baths encourage and promote healthy habits among the bird population by making available and providing a clean area with a source of water allowing birds to take it easy and relax. Not only that, if you know a budding ornithologist, they make a wonderful present for birthdays or holidays. Did you know that bird watching is currently rated as one of the top recreational activities. It is fun, educational and relaxing.

So, whether you have a traditional garden that warrants a solid stone bird bath or a sleek and stylish lawn that demands a more contemporary piece, just get started and you too will be able to enjoy some new friends where you live.
